as a result of a long-standing date with my nephews, we went and saw herbie: fully loaded last night. seeing lindsay lohan in some of her pre-skeletal hilton-bot glory made me want to buy one of those feed lindsay t-shirts. at least i probably wouldn't havce trouble finding one in my size...
anyway, on to the movie. it wasn't that good - it was like herbie's history had been wiped. i was hoping for a link between the originals and this one, and was nearly suckered in to thinking there would be by the opening credits, which took the form of old newspaper reports of herbie's past triumphs and tribulations. then the next thing we know he's in a dumpster, gets bought for $75 by lohan, and no one in even a whole streetracing community of people knows who the hell he is. what about the opening credits, dammit? didn't anyone rememberhow cute and earnest he used to be back in the day? how about making his past relevant? it was all a bit too katie holmes for me. that should learn me for expecting so much from a teen flick... but we all know that i will continue to do so. for every herbie: fully loaded, for every new york minute, there is a mean girls, there is a bring it on. and shalini will continue to dream and to hope.
