oh oh. oh, oh, ooooh.
i just discovered a little shop in degraves street called il papiro. it has books of handmade paper, fountain pens, and ink for dipping them into. everything smells so nice in there. i wish i could live there. but because i can't, i put a dent in my credit card instead. merry christmas!

they aired raw comedy last night, and i watched bits of it - managed to miss my bit though, which was probably my subconcious intention. there was a movie on foxtel called 'the mystic masseur' which i was intrigued by instead - it was an english speaking indian movie, but all the indians had jamaican accents. they sounded so cool! anyway, today i have been getting sms and email messages from people who saw me on telly and although it's a nice little ego boost, it also makes me realise that theres a whole heap of other people out there who now know my name and what i look like. weird.
yesterday was the last day of being an extra on williamstown beach. it wasn't like monday - there wasn't a whole lot of waiting around yesterday. i was involved in about four scenes, mainly because out of a group of eleven extras i was one of three women. hence, i was cast as someone from the makeup department. i got to run into a scene and comfort the starlet and her backup dancers when their scene is mucked up. i had to pat and coo and straighten hair. then in another scene i had to congratulate a backup dancer on a scene well shot, before leading her to a chair. i felt quite bad for the girls because while their roles called for skimpy outfits, the weather didn't.

had my first go at being an extra on a tv show yesterday, and am going back for a second helping today. it's for a kids show called 'scooter, secret agent' or something, and i'm going back there today for another four hour call. the show won't be screened till the middle of next year, and it's interesting being involved in a behind-the-scenes kind of way. i am part of a group of about eleven extras, and we are all playing a film crew. yesterday we all had to be there at 2.15pm, and our 'scene' wasn't shot till around 6. there was a lot of sitting around and drinking tea, and chatting with other extras. then toward the end of the day, someone remembered that they'd brought a ball with them so we kicked that around for a bit before being called in to film by the crew. then we were split into groups and told what to do, which for me was to stand with two other extras, looking concerned and mime being interviewed by a fake police officer. today, we're probably going to be playing the film crew, and we'll be 'filming' a video clip on the beach for a pop starlet. hope it isn't as chilly as it was yesterday!

party was excellent. i was woken up this morning by the sound of the boxes and boxes of empty bottles being dumped into the recycling truck on its way past our place. reminded me of living in camberwell, of when the palace would get their bottle recycling bins emptied. they usually timed it so that there was no rumbling of passing trains- when they tipped the recycling bins up, it sounded like an empty stubbie avalanche. ah, the memories.
the best thing about living in a converted shopfront is you get to eavesdrop on people as they walk past the front of your house. on sunday, i heard at least seven versions of 'oooh, big party there, huh?' or something to that effect when passers-by saw all the empties. funny.
i love living here. we're already planning the next get together.

well well. thursdays are interesting days for me. as i work a two day week, thursdays are like my monday. i generally don't like mondays because, well... they suck, but when thursday is your monday it's not that hurties. that's because friday is still your friday. and thats great. because i turn up to work and what's the general topic of discussion around the office on my monday which is really a thursday? everyone's discussing where we should go for a drink after work on friday. which is tomorrow. still with me? yeah! and to make it all the more sparkly, we're having a party this weekend. i was a bit worried about not being ready for it, but how fucked up is that. not ready for a party. seriously, sometimes i wonder about my own reactions. a party's a party. it'll all be good. yaaay!
ps i submitted the final of my ms. to a publisher yesterday.
that is all.

i forgot to mention that on monday, i finally finished watching 'kabhi khushi kabhi gham'. and i don't know what it is, but hindi movies still have the same effect on me they always have had - i bawled my eyes out at the end. i've decided it's high time i included those bollywood movie reviews i promised you all so long ago. soon, my bollywood page will be updated, and i think i'll start with the classics from my collection first.
the abc has decided on an air date for the raw comedy national finals - tues nov 25 at 10pm. me and my many chins will debut on national television. what an occasion!

o3-11-o3 - happy thirtieth birthday to me... :o)
mark planned a day full of things for us to do on saturday, which was fun - apart from my visit to spa chakra in the morning and us both checking out the immigration museum in the afternoon, the rest of the day had a distinct marine feel to it - we went to the aquarium, saw james cameron's titanic doco at imax, then had dinner at the melbourne oyster bar. i ordered chilli crab, then proceeded to make an absolute mess. i was very selfconcious to start with, but soon enough all cutlery was ignored and i ate like i would mum's crab curry at home. if she'd seen the way i conducted myself, i'm sure she would have been both mortified and proud of me. we're going out to dinner with the family this evening, which i am looking forward to! my life revolves around good food, good drink and good company. i likey.
today some time, i have to go pick up a parcel from the post office that has been addressed to 'shalini superstar'. here's hoping they don't ask for i.d.!
